Joan Vidal i Ventosa

Painter, sculptor and pyrographer
Barcelona (1880) - (1966)

He trained as a painter at La Llotja, the Barcelona School of Fine Arts, and studied sculpture with M. Fuxà.
He took part in the Modernista discussions at Els Quatre Gats and later in those at the Guayaba workshop, which were also attended by P. Picasso, M. Hugué, I. Smith and I. Nonell.
In his mature period he gave up painting and sculpture for pyrography, and presented the works he created using this technique at various exhibitions. One of his best works is a pyrograph, Vallcarca en nit de lluna (Vallcarca on a Moonlit Night, MNAC collection).
