He set up his own company in 1885 and it became one of the most active in the period, winning several prizes at two exhibitions.
His first major work was based on a design by the architect A. Gallissà. He worked for the best Modernista architects, such as A. Gaudí and J. Puig i Cadafalch, with whom he collaborated regularly and was involved in making the ironwork for Casa Amatller (1898-1900; Passeig de Gràcia, 41) and Casa Terrades, or Casa de les Punxes (1903-1905; Diagonal, 416-420). He worked too with his brother-in-law P. Falqués, with whom he made the benches underneath the lampposts in Passeig de Gràcia in Barcelona. His technique consisted applying the usual Modernista ornamentation, such as wavy coup de fouet "whiplash" lines and floral motifs to traditional metal plate structures.
His team of craftsmen was formed by Francesc Pujols, embosser; Josep Guardiola, smith, and Andreu Carbonell, fitter.
