Els Negres

Painters

Els Negres, or The Black Ones, were a group of painters in favour of non-conventional art similar to the work of I. Nonell. They produced mainly very large charcoal sketches in which dark tones were predominant and the subject matter was mostly urban views, crowds and marginal characters.
The main members of the group were the painters M. Ainaud and J. Biosca and the sculptor E. Casanovas.
In 1903 the group held one of its few public exhibitions in Els Quatre Gats (Montsió, 3 bis).
