He trained as a painter by attending the classes given by the Cercle Artístic de Sant Lluc (Artistic Circle of Saint Luke). In 1901 he went to Paris to further his studies and shared a workshop there with Xavier Nogués. During this period his work - mainly landscapes - was within the framework of Modernisme.
He later went to live in Munich and upon his return settled in Vilanova i la Geltrú, where he evolved towards impressionist painting, which increased his popularity.
He was one of the founders of the Artistic and Literary Society of Barcelona
