Domènec Sugrañes i Gras

Architect
Reus (1878) - Barcelona (1938)

He studied architecture in Barcelona and qualified as an architect in 1912.
He very soon started to work with the architect Joan Pons i Traval and come into contact with the architect A. Gaudí, in whose studio he began working as a draughtsman in 1896. From then on he regularly collaborated with the architect on many of his projects. He completed some of the elements of Torre de Bellesguard (1900-1902; Bellesguard, 20), worked on Casa Batlló (1904; Passeig de Gràcia, 43) and Finca Miralles (1901-1902; Passeig de Manuel Girona, 55-61) and, lastly, became the director of works on the Temple of the Sagrada Família (1882; unfinished), upon the death of A. Gaudí, finishing the three towers of the Nativity Façade. As he had trained in the architect's studio, his work displays a number of Gaudian solutions.
From 1913 to 1930, he was the municipal architect of Mollet del Vallès. He also worked with other architects such as J. Rubió i Bellver, in Reus, and I. Mas, with whom he designed the Monumental bullring in Barcelona (1915; Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, 749), which features a Modernista aesthetic.
In the 1920 his architecture started to reflect the influence of the new trends.
