He started out as a draughtsman
and lithographer, but soon began to devote himself
to photography, a field in which he was self-taught.
His work consists mainly of photographs of contemporary artists and art objects which were published in the leading popular magazines of the time, such as La Ilustració Catalana and Destino.
Around 1903 he suggested to the artists who exhibited at Sala Parés (Petritxol, 5) the possibility of photographing them in their working environment. Shortly afterwards he began a series of photographs of a large number of artists and intellectuals -many of them Modernistas, such as, for example, A. Ros i Güell, R. Opisso and L. Masriera which you will find in this book- at work in their studios or workshops. These photographs were published in 1905 as a collection of postcards under the title of Nuestros Artistas (Our Artists) which brought him a great deal of prestige and recognition. Throughout his career he continued with the same subject matter, but took his portrait photographs in other situations as well, such as leisure activities or family scenes.
