This master builder, who qualified in 1854, was the father of the Modernista architect J.F. Granell i Manresa.
His own architectural production was not Modernista, but eclectic. However, one of his buildings, the Víctor Balaguer Library Museum (1834-1889; Avinguda de Víctor Balaguer, s/n, Vilanova i la Geltrú), is considered by the historian Alexandre Cirici i Pellicer as one of those marking the beginning of Modernisme.
In Barcelona he worked in 1871 on the high altar of the church of the Conception (Aragó, 299 - Passatge Rector Oliveras, 1-5) and on the old part of the Hospital del Sagrat Cor (1885; Viladomat, 288), both works in Neo-Gothic style.
