Joaquim Xaudaró i Echauz

Cartoonist
Vigan (1872) - Madrid (1933)

Born into a Catalan family in the Philippines, as a child he went to live in Barcelona. He trained at the Trias Academy until 1890 and soon decided on caricature as his chosen field, although he had to combine this with topography and technical drawing. His drawings were published in various magazines in Barcelona, including Barcelona Cómica, La Hormiga de Oro and La Ilustración Ibérica.
He lived for many years in Madrid, where he did political cartoons for magazines such as Blanco y Negro and the newspaper ABC. In 1898, a time when Catalan poster design was in its heyday, he also turned his hand to making humorous posters employing a Modernista aesthetic. He went to Paris, where he established himself as an illustrator for some time, but eventually returned to Madrid, where he lived until his death.
