Josep Jordi Guardiola i Bonet

He began his training at La Llotja, the Barcelona School of Fine Arts, as a painter and sketcher and soon took part in various art exhibitions. Without ever giving up painting altogether, he opted for ceramics, a field in which he achieved a great deal of success.
In his mature period the French government invited him to work in Sèvres (1934-37), the ceramics centre of the time, where he made several models that were very well received and in great demand by the French public.
His pieces are highly personal, characterised by horror vacui (fear of the void), though influenced by Modernisme. Later, however, he evolved and adapted to Noucentisme ("1900-ism", a term coined in 1906 to refer to 20th century Catalan culture). From 1918 onwards he held various expositions at the Sala Parés (Petritxol, 5).
