He trained at La Llotja, the Barcelona School of Fine Arts, as a painter, but he himself acknowledgedthat the operas at the Gran Teatre del Liceu aroused his interest in stage design.
He joined the Teatre Odeón, where the stage designer Marià Carreras worked, to gain practical experience. Shortly afterwards he began to work with Joan Ballester and, when he died, with F. Soler i Rovirosa. He designed several sets for the Gran Teatre del Liceu, such as the one for Lohengrin (1909; Barcelona Theatre Institute collection).
He had a strong personality and stood out in his profession for the composition and technique of his designs.
In 1880 he went to New York to make the sets for a show and upon his return worked for all the theatres in Barcelona. He also worked for several theatres in Madrid and other Spanish cities.
