The Barcelona  Modernisme Route is an itinerary through the Barcelona of Gaudí, Domènech i Montaner and Puig i Cadafalch, who together with other architects, made Barcelona the great capital of Catalan Art Nouveau. With this route you can discover impressive palaces, amazing houses, the temple that is symbol of the city and an immense hospital, as well as more popular and everyday works such as pharmacies, shops, bars, streetlights or benches. Modernisme works that show that Art Nouveau took root in Barcelona and even today is still a living art, and part of the city’s everyday life.

La Casa de la Lactància avui és una residència de gent gran i no es pot visitar. Però, a través d’imatges, ens podem fer una idea de com és i quins tresors modernistes hi ha al seu interior. L’edifici s’estructura mitjançant un gran vestíbul de dos pisos d’alçada i cobert per una claraboia, al voltant del qual es distribueixen totes les estances.

La Casa de la Lactància és un edifici situat a l’Eixample que destaca pel color blau cel de la seva façana. El va dissenyar Pere Falqués, tot i que finalment va acabar el projecte un altre arquitecte modernista, Antoni Falguera. La façana té elements clarament inspirats en el passat, concretament en l’estil gòtic, com aquest finestral.

Aquest és un d’aquells edificis que no només destaca per la seva estètica, sinó també per la seva funció. I és que amb la Revolució Industrial, a final del segle XIX i principi del XX, neix el concepte d’ajuda social i es comencen a posar en marxa diverses iniciatives per ajudar a la població més desfavorida, com per exemple a les mares amb infants petits i sense recursos. Amb aquest propòsit es va fundar la Casa de la Lactància.

El terra de la ‘Peixera’ del Conservatori Municipal de Música està fet íntegrament de mosaics amb franges de marbre rosat i gris de gran qualitat. També cal destacar els arrimadors escultòrics del nivell inferior, fets de ceràmica vidriada verda ornamentats amb relleus en forma de rombes i hexàgons.
